my 4th of july was pretty much a full day celebration for my boyfriend sean’s birthday. we started our day with brunch at pies ‘n thighs and ended our night with dinner at the nomad.

being that pies n’s thighs is known for their fried chicken, we of course had to try the chicken biscuit (fried cutlet on a biscuit with hot sauce and honey butter) and the chicken and waffles (buckwheat waffles covered with blueberries and fried chicken).

i also ordered their special, a watermelon salad with cucumbers, jalepenos, and mint.

sadly, we didnt leave room for dessert, but will certainly be back for a slice of their homemade apple and banana cream pies.

the nomad

our dinner at the nomad began with a loaf of their warm homemade zucchini and cheese flatbread. a restaurant review described this as “heave on earth”, and insisted “don’t expect to be able to leave a crumb behind.” i have to agree, i’d go back for this bread alone!

our appetizers were the bone marrow gratinee with parsely, shallots and anchovy and the tagliatelle with king crab, meyer, lemon and black pepper.

for entrees, we had the scallops with sorrel, lemon, and maitake mushrooms, and the lobster with minestrone with fave beans, lemon verbana and garganelli.

after dinner we couldn’t resist taking a cheesy photo with the festive empire state building….

for dessert, a little ben & jerrys at home with a candle so i could sing happy birthday and sean could make his wish!
